Wolf Children
The Colorado Dragon Film Festival continues Saturday, May 21 at 10:00am with Wolf Children” is a staggeringly beautiful animated feature film from director Mamoru Hosoda (“Summer Wars”), based on a traditional Japanese folktale. This epic cinematic achievement follows Hana, a woman who falls in love with a Wolf Man and gives birth to two half human, half wolf children. After the tragic death of her beloved, Hana seeks refuge in a rural town where she attempts to build a life for herself and her children. Hosoda is considered the heir to the anime talent of Hayao Miyazaki, the creator of such anime classics as “My Neighbor Totoro” and “Spirited Away.” “Wolf Children” earned a number of awards upon its release, including the 2013 Japan Academy Prize for Animation of the Year, the 2012 Mainichi Film Award for Best Animation Film, and the 2013 Animation of the Year award at TAF. It won two awards at the Oslo Films from the South Festival in Norway: the main award, the Silver Mirror, and the Audience Award. It won an Audience Award at 2013 New York International Children’s Film Festival and the 2014 Best Anime Disc award from Home Media Magazine.
