The Mission of The Pomegranate Tree is to bring light to ideological issues brought forth during the Partitioning of India from a perspective often ignored: that of sixteen-year-old Muslim girl. How often is history explored through the eyes of a young woman? How about a Muslim, or a child? While this historical conflict that resulted in the death of approximately 2 million people is often ignored by western civilization, the perspective of a young Muslim girl is rarely explored at all. The Pomegranate tree gives that girl a voice. A very powerful, profound, and poetic voice.
Kanika Vora is a 2021 graduate of Chapman University with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Film Production and a minor in Entrepreneurship. She started filmmaking in high school by making short documentaries primarily about social and political issues. She has since followed her passion for story by diving into the narrative world where she continues to explore sharing real stories, voices, and characters but in a narrative way. She is passionate about telling stories that leave the audience thinking long after the credits roll, whether to inspire or provoke, as that is the beauty of film. Bringing to light historical themes and stories, but with new or unique perspectives and voices, is her way of blending cultures and eras to show the timelessness of human emotion and connection: After all, it is difficult to make a social impact without the two. She is so excited to continue telling stories that audiences can connect to, regardless of language, time period, or genre. |
