About
Ma is a short documentary following a septuagenarian on her road to recovery from Kolkata to Niagara Falls. At the age of 80, she lives alone, teaches three to four hours everyday, and dreams of one day seeing the Niagara Falls. Ma explores themes of loneliness, spiritualism, and the definition of family. The film is shot over a period of a year and a half, and documents the journey through Kolkata, Jaipur, Denver and finally, Canada.
The director and producer, Roma Sur, will provide an overview discussing the production of her film after the screening of the two minute film trailer. The final phase of the film will be shot in Denver and Canada in May/June 2020. |

Artist Statement
The objective of this project is to share a universal story about mothers, and celebrate the spirit of motherhood. It is about finding strength in living alone at the age of 80, and about hope and fierce optimism in a post-modern era that mirrors a dystopian reality. There are many naysayers who think she will never board a flight again. It’s an uphill road. We will find out through the film, whether her faith in her Guru wins one more time.
