Dewi (DAY-wee, formerly "Amy")
Dewi (DAY-wee, formerly "Amy") is an Indonesian-born adoptee, mother, and independent film director and editor based in Colorado. She began her storytelling career as a magazine editor in 2000 and pivoted to filmmaking in 2013, amplifying diverse cultural stories in documentaries that appeared in national parks, film festivals, and on PBS and nationalgeographic.com. Dewi has directed, cast, produced, filmed, and edited for BBC, Fine Films, Instagram, and The Discovery Channel. She is a proud member of Brown Girls Doc Mafia, A-Doc, and Film Fatales, and is currently a fellow at Cine Fe. She began "coming out of the fog" as a transracial adoptee in 2020, and has since dedicated her career to narrative correction, using the camera to decenter white supremacy, colonialism, and the myth of white saviorism, which she believes keep humanity in a toxic loop with itself and the planet.
